Color & keeping your hair healthy
We all want what we don’t have. So, if you’re a brunette, you want your hair lighter, and if you’re blonde, you want it darker or brighter. Most of us crave a new look because we get anxious and we need change. Most aren’t concerned about what they have to do to care for their hair afterwards or how it would affect the integrity of their hair. Any type of chemical process will absolutely dry out your hair and damage your curl pattern.
Your hair should not be put through a dramatic color change all in one day. This mostly applies to those with dark hair wanting to go dramatically lighter. The way these things go most of the time is you go from dark to blonde, you continue to keep it up for a while, then you start missing your appointments because you get tired of the blonde and you start coloring at home with no real treatment regimen. Your hair starts breaking and it seems to not be growing, and one of two things usually happens: you color it back to dark to somehow “make it look healthy” or you get fed up and cut it off. Dramatic color changes don’t usually end well because it was too quick and easy. In return, you’re left with lifeless, unhealthy hair.
If you want my advice, take it slow. Want platinum blonde? Get highlights and every few months add more. Eventually, it will be completely blonde and most importantly, your hair will won’t be fried. Throughout the process you have the chance to continue to become more blonde over time or stop whenever you’re satisfied. If you don’t have the patience, I recommend getting a wig. Rash decisions will only end in regret. Treat your hair delicately, it’s the flower that grows with you.
Until next time, stay natural, stay beautiful!
