Color & keeping your hair healthy

Image
We all want what we don’t have. So, if you’re a brunette, you want your hair lighter, and if you’re blonde, you want it darker or brighter. Most of us crave a new look because we get anxious and we need change. Most aren’t concerned about what they have to do to care for their hair afterwards or how it would affect the integrity of their hair. Any type  of chemical process will absolutely dry out your hair and damage your curl pattern.  Your hair should not be put through a dramatic color change all in one day. This mostly applies to those with dark hair wanting to go dramatically lighter. The way these things go most of the time is you go from dark to blonde, you continue to keep it up for a while, then you start missing your appointments because you get tired of the blonde and you start coloring at home with no real treatment regimen. Your hair starts breaking and it seems to not be growing, and one of two things usually happens: you color it back to dark to someh...

Keeping your curls defined

Image
Wash and go’s are becoming more and more popular as more people are embracing their natural hair. Keeping those curls defined is the sole mission after completing your wash and go.   Your best friend in keeping your curls defined is water. Keep a spray bottle on deck in your bathroom and whenever you notice frizz or curls coming apart, spray those areas and define those curls with your fingers. If water doesn’t get the job done, then try a leave-in spray like DevaCurl’s Mist-er Right Curl refresher to reactivate your styling products.   Following the anti-frizz tips from our previous blog can also help your wash and go last longer. At night before wearing your bonnet put your hair up at the top of your head with a loose satin scrunchie to keep from flattening your curls when you sleep. Until next time, stay natural, stay beautiful! Coral Diaz @ Lelene’s Beauty Bar

Preventing frizz

Frizz is the common enemy that curly girls face on the daily. Especially here in Florida, where you can practically swim in the air. So here are some tips on keeping those gorgeous locks frizz free! Wrapping your hair or changing your pillow case   A lot of people know they should wrap their hair at night, but don’t. It’s actually really important when it comes preventing frizz, breakage, and even keeping your hair moisturized. You should wrap your hair using satin or silk. You can use a scarf to wrap your hair or just wear a bonnet. Satin and silk are very “slippery” fabrics and they absorb minimal moisture. So that means no friction and therefore, no frizz. Try rubbing a cotton shirt on your hair and the try a silk one. You’ll see what I’m talking about. Most people complain they move too much to wear a scarf or bonnet and it always falls off. Switching your pillow case to satin or silk is another option. Beware of the products you use   Make sure what you ...

Hair Growth Tips

Image
So many companies have made millions on products that "grow" your hair and so many people swear by them. But, there are others who have tried it all and have no idea why they get poor results. Hair growth is like an equation, so you need all the variables to get great results. Before I give you this hair saving equation, let's go over some common hair growth myths: "Don't cut your hair, it'll grow faster." "If you do scalp treatments, your hair will grow." "Don't wash your hair, it'll grow." "Wash your hair everyday, it'll grow faster." "Taking vitamins makes your hair grow."   You might have heard some of these before, and you'll notice that some even contradict each other. But, I've heard them all. Most people don't even need real evidence, once someone says "I heard...makes your hair grow," people are quick to try it. Hair growth is something most feel like they ...
